Belive it or not, we were actually doing an outdoor portrait session when this idea came to us. You see, I learned early to LISTEN when a client tells me of ideas she has for looks for her photoshoot. When I asked Chelbie what other ideas she had for wardobe and looks, she broke out this school girl outfit. Of course, we quickly began to attract the attention of passersby as we were shooting the session in a downtown location. I suggested this pose to her and asked her to try it, then “own” it, as in, put her own personality into the pose. and here ya go, one of SEVERAL “keepers” from the session.
The shot: Primary lighting was provided by natural open shade, fill light provided by a single Nikon SB900 through a small softbox, positioned from model’s front and slightly to her left from a high angle (about 12 inches higher than her head) additional fill from model’s right front from a 42″ soft gold reflector to warm the skin).
Camera gear: Nikon D300, Nikkor 70-200 VR 2.8 lens, camera pov was right at the model’s left elbow, Nikon SB900 triggered wirelessly with Nikon CLS system. Aperture Priority at f/4, ISO 200.
Model Facts: Chelbie is a local waitress, the shoot was for her portfolio and some of them were for her boyfriend who assisted on the shoot. I noticed recently that Chelbie has changed her status to Single, and as a result of some of my photography of her, she is now on the trail as a Hooters Girl. Proof positive that a visit to Hooters for a beer and conversation with a colleague CAN pay off (if you have the right waitress!)
